MANY OF THE

Ash, one of our board members, has an upcoming 20 year high school reunion. Their partner Dana told us that she’s really nervous to meet all of Ash’s old schoolmates. “Ash wasn’t always chill…they went to a super Fundamentalist Christian church. I don’t even know if these folks will be vaccinated. Think I can still double mask it?”
We found Pastor Mark Peters of the Assembly of God of the Covenant Southern Christian Revival Church to find out more.
STSP: So, does the bible mention vaccines at all?
Pastor Mark: Well, the Lord is very clear in 1 Corinthians 6:19 when he says “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.”
STSP: So it says don’t get the vaccine.
Pastor Mark: It is my belief that when Paul wrote the epistle Romans 13:10, where he assures us that “Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law,” that he meant for us to help each other and follow the guidance of the land.
STSP: So…does that mean to get the vaccine?
Pastor Mark: It seems pretty clear to me. The Lord wants us to understand that some things that man makes could hurt us. For example, in Hebrews 4:12, we learn that “The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow.” Now doesn’t that sound like a needle to you?
STSP: Wait, I’m getting confused.
Pastor Mark: It actually comes down to Romans 14:1-23: “One person believes he may eat anything, while the other eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him.
STSP: Are you saying that we should just chill out and let people be?
Pastor Mark: Well, unless they’re gay.
STSP: I’m gay.
Pastor Mark: Why do you keep throwing that in people’s faces? I thought this was a charity. Take this mic off me.
